These are personal apps, built for the people who use them. That shapes everything below: there is no account to create, no advertising, no trackers, and no third-party analytics in any of them.
Your data lives on your iPhone and in your own iCloud. It is never sold, never shared, and never used to train anything. A handful of features have to ask the outside world a question — what a food contains, what the weather was — and every one of those is listed by name below. They only run when you use that feature.
casa
understand your body
What it asks for
- Apple Health — to read your sleep, heart, activity and body data, and to write back the food and water you log
- Camera — to scan a barcode on something you eat
- Microphone & speech recognition — to talk to Casa instead of typing
- Location — for the weather and air quality around your day
What stays on your phone
Your health history, your scores and how they were calculated, your journal, and your food log all live on your iPhone and in your own iCloud.
What leaves your phone
- A food name or barcode you look up → USDA FoodData Central, Open Food Facts, openFDA, and our own lookup service. It's a search for a food — no health data goes with it.
- Your location coordinates → Open-Meteo — a free, open-source weather service — to look up the temperature, UV and air quality where you are. Just a latitude and longitude; no name, no account, nothing that identifies you.
- Your Peloton workouts, only if you connect the account yourself → Peloton, using your own login.
- Feedback you deliberately send → Our own feedback inbox, with whatever you typed.
motion
improve performance
What it asks for
- Apple Health — to read your workouts and heart data, and to save the workouts you record
- Location — to record a route while you ride, run or walk
- Motion & fitness — for steps and cadence
- Microphone & speech recognition — for voice coaching and hands-free control
What stays on your phone
Your workouts, routes, courses, fitness numbers and training history stay on your iPhone and in your own iCloud.
What leaves your phone
- Your location coordinates → Apple Weather for conditions during a workout, and Open-Meteo — a free, open-source weather service — for the air-quality number Apple doesn’t provide. Just a latitude and longitude; no name, no account, nothing that identifies you.
- Your Peloton rides, only if you connect the account yourself → Peloton, using your own login.
- A crash or bug report → Our own write-up inbox, so a failure can be fixed.
strands
stay close to your people
What it asks for
- Contacts — to build your people list from the contacts already on your phone
- Calendar — to see birthdays and shared plans
- Photos — to put a face to a person
- Microphone & speech recognition — to log a moment by voice
What stays on your phone
Everything. Your people, your notes about them, and every interaction you log stay on your iPhone and in your own iCloud.
What leaves your phone
Nothing. strands has no servers of its own and sends your information nowhere.
slate
capture everything, recall anything
What it asks for
- Contacts, calendar and reminders — so what you capture can connect to your actual life
- Camera & photos — to capture something visually
- Microphone & speech recognition — to capture by voice
- Location — to remember where a note happened
- Face ID — to lock the app, if you turn that on
What stays on your phone
Everything. Your notes and everything Slate works out from them stay on your iPhone and in your own iCloud — the intelligence runs on the device itself.
What leaves your phone
Nothing. slate has no servers of its own and sends your information nowhere.
iCloud
Every app syncs through your own iCloud account, using Apple’s private database. That means your data moves between your own devices and is not readable by us.
One deliberate exception: in motion, the friends feed is shared. A workout you explicitly choose to share becomes visible to the people you share it with. Route maps and live location are separate switches, and both are off by default. Nothing is shared until you turn it on.
Health data
casa and motion read from Apple Health only with your permission, and only the categories they need. Health data is never sent to advertisers or data brokers, never used for marketing, and never shared with anyone. It is used to show you your own numbers, and nothing else.
You’re in control
- Any permission can be withdrawn at any time in iOS Settings — the app keeps working with less.
- Health permissions are managed per category in the Health app.
- Deleting an app removes its data from that device; deleting it from iCloud removes it everywhere.
Children
These apps aren’t directed at children and don’t knowingly collect information from them.
Changes & contact
If an app starts doing something new with your data, this page changes with it and the date at the top moves. Questions about any of it, or a request to delete your data: privacy@slateapps.app.
